    Default FCE Testing

My doctor in Philly is sending me for a bone scan of my knee. And wants me to take an FCE test. I will do whatever he suggests. But my union`s lawyer has advised me not to be the driving force towards getting this exam done. Not that he doesn`t want me to do it. Just that he believes it should be the W/C insurance company pushing for it, and not me. Any advice?

If you are the one asking for an fce do yourself a favor do not mention it again. fce's are just a tool for the i/c to lead you back to work before you are ready. The examiner works for the i/c and will ask you many personal questions, which is not his job, turn your words around, that is his job, will try and make you do tasks that can hurt you in the long run later and will state that if you do not do any of these tasks or finish them then you are either merlingering, faking, or possibly in pain, and that's the order he will put it in with the possibility of pain as last. It is not a test that really has any merit to it, it is not seen by most med prac as a reliable testing tool. After I took mine I could not move for a week, and had to ask dr for additional meds for the exstreme pain it left me with.

If you are the one asking for it please do not pursue this line of testing, if it is the i/c please see a lawyer and a doctor before you go.

    Hope this helps,

    Nipper

I just had a fce test done in erie. My doctor suggested it because he doesn't do mmi. I haven't gotten back the results yet. I had it done so I know what I'm capable of doing. They will make sure it is unbias since my doctor ordered it. My doctor does not work for WC. If I wait until WC want this done I would have to go to their choice of facilities to have the test. It would be their doctors deciding my rating and you know how bias they are. I don't know how this turn out but at least it was my doctor and my choice.

Thanks Nipper! My attorney has advised me not to pursue the FCE testing. In his words let the insurance company come to you with the proposal. And on another front. I saw a another orthopedic specialist about my knee today. He suggests something called microfracture surgery on my knee would be my best option. But it means 6 weeks on crutches. And 3-6 months of PT afterwards. I have to think hard about that!

    Dear Will,

I hope everything goes well, if you are nervous about the op, google microfracture, and read up on all the pros and cons. This way when you see you dr. next if you have any questions he can answer your concerns.

    Best of luck,

    Nipper

I got my fce test results today. I'm on light duty w/permant restrictions the most I am able to lift is 25lbs. occasionally. ocasional standing, walking. simple grasping and low speed assembly. I'm not disappointed with these results. It also states I had a valid 31 out of a possible 37 validity critera giving me a valid valdity profile indicating maximal effort during testing

Congradulations, now when you go back to work make sure they don't push you beyond your restrictions! And if they try to bring a copy of your restrictions with you, show it to your supervisor and I hope all goes well. Be very careful because in their eyes you are damaged goods and in pa it is a fire at will state so be carefull of them, but I'm sure everything will go right on track for you.

    Again, Congrats,

    Nipper
