I was not able to go due to a schedule conflict, but I understand that several hundred working people were there to protest the Workers' Comp Benefits Reduction Acts, House Bill 709 and Senate Bill 544. I think the legislators took notice. They have not voted on it yet, but the opposition to these bills appears to be growing all across the state from many quarters.

It still amazes me that middle class working people here in NC vote for Republicans, who then get into office and do everything they can to hurt middle class working people. That is exactly what is going on in NC right now. It is not just workers' comp reform---they are trying to reduce unemployment compensation benefits to the unemployed, defund the public schools, and do all of these ultra right wing ideological things, like turning down Federal money that will create jobs in NC for improving our passenger railroad service between Charlotte and Raleigh. Our actual unemployment rate is around 17% or so, and many of the unemployed are skilled construction workers. But the Republicans in our legislature, led by some clown named Ric Killian, want to turn down this job-producing money. Mind-boggling.

And middle class working people in NC keep voting for them..........against their own best interests. Absolutely amazing.

Bob, you are so right about the republicans being cut throat to the working class of every state. So many republicans look only at pro-life as being the only or at least best reason to vote the republicans in that they totally over look the down side of having them represent their state not only on the home front but in DC as well. Mind boggling for certain.

I happen to be very pro-life for me personally but I do NOT think that gives me the right to say what others should or should not do. I am also not so blinded by the political LIARS that I over look the fact that there is going to be a certain level of pro-life and pro-choice rights regardless of who is in office. Even if it means back to the 60's in the back alley hack shops.

The deputy commisioners apparently have no idea as to what N. Carolina covers! I would first contact the Gov's office and tell them atleast to hire competent commisioners!
