Re: Aetna Short Term Disability As an Offset to Workers Comp
My employer sent me a letter stating that I should take advantage of short term disability while on workman’s comp.
They state that it offsets my pay
Short Term Disability insurance is voluntary, it covers illnesses and "off-the-job accidents" It's paid for by you, it's your personal insurance policy.
Workers Compensation is required by law, it assumes and protects the employer from the liability of work related injuries, it's paid for by your employer.
Your Short Term Disability insurance policy isn't about to assume the liability of that employer, the idea is laughable.
Anymore of this non-sensical talk or at the first sign of problems, consult and retain a lawyer.
Income Protection Alternatives
Kentucky laws require employers to have workers compensation insurance in place for all employees. Workers compensation replaces a portion of income when the worker becomes disabled from an on the job accident. It does not cover general illnesses, or off the job accidents. Short-term disability covers general illnesses, and off-the-job accidents, and must be purchased by the employee.
