My workers compensation claim was made in the State of: California
I had lower back surgery for an L4/5, L5/S1 injury back in 2016. Surgery was very successful. They made a large incision (6") in my stomach, next to my belly button, and another in my low back.
Fast forward to Dec 2019, and a hernia formed right next to the stomach scar from my surgery. Went and saw my PCP who told me it is a Ventral (or Incisional ) Hernia. Said they happen quite frequently following surgery in the abdomen. They do not heal on their own and surgery is required to fix them.
My question, being that the incision that caused the hernia was from a work comp surgery, is this new hernia also covered under work comp? If so, how do I proceed? I've been medically retired from my employer since 2007 due to my original injury.
